Two significant artifacts will be on display in Smithfield’s Drawing Room.
First, a very rare legal opinion dated November 14, 1771, authored at Monticello, written and signed by Thomas Jefferson and sent to Preston relative, James McDowell, discussing the bounty of a wolf in Augusta County.
The second piece is an invitation from President George Washington, inviting Colonel William Preston’s son, William Preston, to dinner at the White House. President Washington was fond of the Preston family since he served in the French and Indian War with Colonel William Preston.
