Join us bright and early on Easter morning for an outdoor Easter Sunday Service at the Smithfield Pavilion. Father Wade Miller of St. Philip's Anglican Church officiating. Free Admission, donations accepted for St. Philip's. Smithfield closed for Easter Sunday after special event.

Celebrate Easter and springtime with the return of our annual Easter Egg Hunt! 

Visit with our event's Special Guest: The Easter Bunny and have your portrait taken by Whitescarver Photography for a unique keepsake of your time at Smithfield.

Celebrate the arrival of Fall through the sights, sounds and tastes of the season at A Smithfield Hallowe'en!

Enjoy live music on the lawn featuring Happy Hollow String Band and New Standard Bluegrass Band, hunt for the perfect pumpkin in the Smithfield Pumpkin Patch and visit Blue Ridge Cider Doughnuts and Aloha Eddie's Shaved Ice for some sweet treats.

Learn a bit of history while onsite with a visit to our Forge to watch a historic blacksmith demonstration and take a tour of the Preston Family Cemetery. Round out your visit with a trip to the Smithfield manor house for a Trick-or-Treat house tour!

Visit Smithfield for a short remembrance ceremony held at the Preston Family Cemetery to remember those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom, and to honor those who are with us, still today. Our ceremony will feature local scouts, music, and military honors.

Begin your holiday season by celebrating with friends and family at our annual holiday event: A Smithfield Yuletide! Enjoy cheerful, holiday tunes by local musicians, sweets, delicious tea & hot chocolate, cheery adult beverages, grapevine wreath making, holiday family photos with Santa, and beautiful decorations!

Enjoy a seasonal dinner and music by candlelight at Smithfield!  This rare opportunity is limited to twenty participants. Tickets go quickly once they go on sale.

Help us ring in Independence Day by spending the day at a house that saw the beginning of a new nation!

Enjoy house tours, shop in our Museum Store, observe artillery displays by Giles Artillery and blacksmith demonstrations in our onsite forge.

At 6:30pm, gather for an Independence Day Ceremony featuring traditional excerpts from the Declaration of Independence and Frederick Douglass, followed by a rousing cannon fire salute. Cool off with flavored shaved ice from our featured vendor: Aloha Eddie, and enjoy a patriotic concert by The Blacksburg Brass Ensemble, immediately following the Independence Day Ceremony

1872 Forward: Celebrating Virginia Tech is a 3-day celebration that will bring to life how the past shapes the present and leads the university into the future. 

Over the course of the weekend, the Council on Virginia Tech History, in conjunction with the More Than a Fraction Foundation (affiliated with the African American descendants of Solitude and Smithfield), will be providing several days of programming to recognize 150 years of Virginia Tech’s history.
